Next April 23th, is a big celebration and a tradition that the catalans really.
In normal circumstances, during this day is beautiful wandern around the streets of any town or city in Catalunya, they are overflowed of books, roses and people walking around and enjoying of this beautiful street cultural show.
This traditions says that women get roses and men books. Although my mother always gave me, and still does, books and I was very glad about it, and my father a rose of course. Yes this is not just about boyfriend and girlfriend. Fathers, siblings, colleagues from work, and also couples. But this is not the catalan Saint Valentine’s day as some people call it, because is not just about couples, and we the catalans, don’t like when people called it like this. Sant Jordi is Sant Jordi, different.
All this traditions is about Saint George legend and the pricess. The legend says, very briefly explained, that the dragon was killing all the women in town, the next one was the princess, and the King was very worried, didn’t what to do. Saint George appear and safed the princess and the town killing the dragon, and from the blod of the animal grew up a rose, which was gave to the princess by the Knight.
To remember the legend a rose is give as a symbol of the end of the frightening dragon and the book symbolizes the legend.
So, in Sant Narcis neighborhood, with our resilience in front of the Covid19 crises, we dont want to stop celebrating Sant Jordi this year. This year will be different but we propose to do two action to enjoy of our roses and books.
Decorate the balconies with roses and share a part of a book that you have liked, afterwards all the videos will be shared onto the social networks of the Sant Narcis Neighborhood Association
