Today we come to talk about the Social and Solidarity Economy. Do you know what it means?
We can say that it is the set of socioeconomic initiatives that prioritize the satisfaction of people’s needs over profit.
In the Social and Solidarity Economy, cooperative and not competitive relationships are fostered, people and their needs are prioritized, participatory environments are generated and environmental sustainability and gender equality are very much present.
In a world that is increasingly individualized and where we are not used to creating a community as before (especially in cities), we believe it is very necessary that there are consumption and life options that are more respectful of people and the environment.
Therefore, within the ESS we can find a great variety of proposals to live a more sustainable life and close to people. Some examples are:
- Consumer cooperatives where you can find fresh, organic and local products, ensuring fair trade and optimal conditions for the workers
- Housing cooperatives, which promote a collective and participatory use of housing and where we work to we all have the right to a decent home
- Educational projects based on the needs of childhood, with resources and educational materials that bring us closer to nature and learning through games and our own experiences
- Ethical banking projects, which allocate their resources to projects related to the SSE and promote sustainable development
There are also accommodations, such as Can Cocollona, which are part of the Social and Solidarity Economy network. We are projects in which we promote a sustainable lifestyle and travel that is respectful of people and nature.
